Jon Osacky ‘16.5 recognized for creating phone application, Meter for Uber

Just yesterday, Internet culture website, the Daily Dot, acknowledged Gamma Zeta Undergraduate Jon Osacky for creating the Android, and soon to be I-phone application, Meter for Uber. Meter for Uber gives Uber users a breakdown of exactly what they are paying for when they decide to ride with Uber.

Osacky came up with the idea while he was interning in California for another phone application company called Slice. Since he did not have a car, Osacky depended on Uber to get him from place to place and became interested in how Uber calculates its final cost. From here, Osacky began working and developing what would eventually become Meter for Uber.

Currently, Osacky is back in California interning for Facebook and will remain there over summer for an internship with Uber.

Docs Seth and TSully ’78s in Honduras

Hello Guys,

Please take a look at the note below from Dr. Seth Berl ’78 regarding his upcoming medical mission trip to Honduras along with dentist, Dr. Tom “TSully” Sullivan.  Seth is leading two groups who will stay one week each with the first group leaving February 28.  I realize that this is very late notice to participate but it never hurts to ask.  Maybe some of you have been thinking about doing something like this and just need someone to reach out and say “let’s go”.  And… how cool would it be if a group of Gamma Zeta ATOs would come together … “to have no narrower limits within which to work together for the elevation of man than the outlines of the world“.
If you’d be interested in joining Seth and TSully, please contact Seth at  sberl@moultriega.net or 229-850-0019.  They also welcome donations.  Please send checks payable to Heritage Church and mail to:

Hinsdale, Ill. (January 12, 2015) –   Brothers Scott and Ryan McNaughton, have grown their company, Tartan Builders, Inc. (TBI) of Hinsdale Ill., through hard work and longstanding connections. The family-owned and operated residential and commercial construction company has been in business for three years and has embarked on over 35 projects in and around the Chicagoland area. Alan Dysert ’73 – The Senator Trailer

Alan Dysert ’73 passed on this link to the trailer for a film project that he’s had in the works which is now complete. It’s a lot of fun.  I think that you’ll enjoy it!

http://youtu.be/2jlBE7rLHSE

Here’s some additional info about the project directly from Alan…

This was a bucket list project for me. Which means I had to wear too many hats: writer, director, producer, music composer and performer, mop the floors… you name it.  But it made it much more satisfying than doing everything by committee or running everything by a network. I get to take the blame for everything. That’s cool with me.

There are some fun people in the project (now finished).
Jay DeMarcus from RASCAL FLATTS plays my speechwriter. Very funny guy besides being a hugely successful musician.
Tiffany Fallon – Playboy playmate of the year 2005 – plays a former lover now a member of Congress that hates my character.
Jack Cameron White- just finished up on Sons of Anarchy- ( former husband of Katie Segal-and best known as Rick Springfield’s drummer for 25 years) You see him on a motorcycle at the end for the trailer.

We had a great time -and this project will continue into another one.

Thanks for watching. I will keep you posted on where it ends up.

Alan
