TARTAN BUILDERS, INC. CONSTRUCTS HOMES BUILT UPON FRIENDSHIPS

Hinsdale, Ill. (January 12, 2015) –   Brothers Scott and Ryan McNaughton, have grown their company, Tartan Builders, Inc. (TBI) of Hinsdale Ill., through hard work and longstanding connections. The family-owned and operated residential and commercial construction company has been in business for three years and has embarked on over 35 projects in and around the Chicagoland area. Five of the projects have a special meaning to them, as they were built for long-time fraternity brothers from Alpha Tau Omega. This niche for building for fellow fraternity brothers, is in part what has helped grow their business today.

Both McNaughton brothers are responsible for the overall business strategy and operations of the company, with their experience stemming back to the strong foundation built decades ago by their late father, James McNaughton of James McNaughton Builders, Inc. As graduates of the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana (Scott ’00, Ryan ’02), coupled with their membership in the fraternity, Alpha Tau Omega, it has allowed them to forge many friendships that have proven to be the building blocks in shaping their careers.

What began in the summer of 2012 with a full rehabilitation of a home in Clarendon Hills for a fraternity brother, has lead them to building a new home in Western Springs in 2013, a new home in Clarendon Hills in 2014 and three additional renovation projects in 2014.

“It has always been our mentality that we are friends first, above all business transactions,” said Scott McNaughton, of Tartan Builders. “To work with your friends is enjoyable; a lot of stories and memories have come out during the building process.”

Both McNaughton’s believe the ATO network is an invaluable organization to belong to. The fraternity not only helped them to develop leadership and social skills, but it allowed them to maintain interpersonal relationships long after they left the University of Illinois. Both brothers are involved in the fraternity’s mentorship program, which matches alumni up with undergraduate members. It can help our youngest members get off to a great start, provide focus in the right areas during their time at the U of I and help them prepare for and secure internships and their first jobs. It has also proven to be a great way for mentors to stay connected to the fraternity brothers that they know AND form valuable new personal and professional relationships.

“Our involvement in the mentor program allows us to give back,” said Ryan McNaughton of Tartan Builders, Inc. “We are able to offer advice and guidance and help current members prepare for their future, just as the fraternity had taught us.”
