Mike LaVitola ’09 Co-Founder and CEO of Foxtrot Ventures

LavitolaMike LaVitola ’09 isn’t wasting any time. He’s still a semester away from graduation from The University of Chicago Booth School of Business and he’s already co-founded and assumed the role of CEO of startup, Foxtrot Ventures which “delivers drinks, eats and corner store necessities from your iPhone to your door in minutes”. I recently read an article titled something along the lines of “Five Questions to ask to know if you have a killer business idea”. Here’s how Mike responded to these questions… and a few more:

(Editor’s note – I started to email with Dan Blaho ’92 simply because from what I had seen on his Linkedin bio, it appeared that he had taken an interesting path that would make for a good story for the Gamma Zeta News. Then, when the news hit of the protests and unrest in the Ukraine a couple of weeks ago, it all took on a new meaning. Despite living and teaching just 15 minutes from the heart of the protests and violence in Kiev, Ukraine, Dan took time to respond for the Gamma Zeta News.)

When Dan Blaho ’92 first learned the words form the ATO Creed, “To have no narrower Continue reading

There is a destiny that makes us brothers – Robert J. Simonds, 1924-2013

Bob SimondsOur great friend, inspiration and leader, Bob Simonds entered the Chapter Eternal on December 21, 2013.

Bob remained connected, committed and active in ATO until the very end. Just this past year he led all of us in a campaign that raised over $60,000 for ALS research. He inspired the ATO Rooftop outing in 2012 and the gathering at the Illinois vs. Washington Football game this past fall at Soldier Field that brought so many of us together, some for the first time in decades. Bob also inspired the creation of the document “Legends, Leaders, Lists and Profiles – the Stories and Men That Bind Us – Gamma Zeta – Alpha Tau Omega – University of Illinois” which you can see at our Continue reading

Gamma Zeta Alumni Celebrate the Holidays Together in Chicago

Southbranch Holiday Happy Hour 2013Over 100 Gamma Zeta alumni passed through South Branch Tavern & Grille in Chicago for our 24th annual “buy a brother a beer” holiday party in Chicago on December 20. South Branch, at 100 S Wacker Dr. turned out to be an ideal location close to both train stations and we had our biggest turnout ever. This event is really growing. This year we had representatives from the class of 1975 through the class of 2012. Special thanks to Bill “BB” Barry ’77 who backed our tab!!
