2018 ATO Gamma Zeta Holiday Happy Hour

Hello Gamma Zetas,

For over 25 years Gamma Zetas have been gathering in Chicago for our annual buy a brother a beer, post work “Holiday Happy Hour”.  This tradition was started by the class of ’80 but has spread to all Gamma Zetas over the years.  It’s a great and easy opportunity to get your own class together while at the same time crossing over to connect with Gamma Zetas from your era and others. Here are the details:

Date:           Thursday, December 13
Time:           4:00 PM – ?? PM (stop by any time)
Location:     Porter Kitchen & Deck
150 N. Riverside Plaza
Chicago, IL
(great location… just a couple blocks to trains)
Cost:           Cash bar plus a $20 donation to cover the cost of the minimum and some appetizers

So, mark your calendars and plan to stop by to say hello. Reach out to your brothers and let them know that you’ll be there and that you’d like to see them… not everyone is on my email list (or reads it if they are so need your help spreading the word!)

Note: Porter (https://porterchicago.com/) is one of Matt Menna’s ’93 very cool Four Corner’s Tavern Group bars/restaurants and where we held the real estate networking event earlier this year.  Matt promises to make sure there are some great appetizers set out for us!

Looking forward to seeing everyone on December 13!!

Dane

Update to Bylaws – 11/1/18

November 1, 2018

Dear Gamma Zeta Alumni Brethren:

One of the projects needing my attention, as the new House Corporation President for our Gamma Zeta Chapter, was to review and update our corporate Articles of Incorporation and corresponding Bylaws.

As best I could see from records passed down to me, these important documents had not been reviewed since 1968.

Jack Klues, Current GZ Board Of Trustees Chairman, and I believe we needed to hire outside legal expertise as well as engage counsel of ATO National Headquarters and its wholly owned Chapter House Management Company named The Richmond Group.

These expert resources have explained to us that we need not amend/revise our Articles of Incorporation that were first drafted in 1938 and filed with the State of Illinois.

However, we were advised to make one substantive change in our Bylaws.

That change was in regard to ( Article XIV , Sections A and B) regarding “ Dissolution of The Chapter”. Please review the element carefully as it is an addition to our existing Bylaws and deals specifically on how the House Corporation would manage our Chapter House Closing and hand over of the physical plant and its property assets to the Richmond Group/ ATO National Headquarters. Here is a link to the proposed Bylaws for your review – https://atoillinois.com/…/…/ATO_BYLAWS_REVISIONS_OCT12-2.pdf

Note: We have no plans to close or dissolve the chapter and hope that there is never a need to exercise this clause. The chapter is strong, having recently won the ATO National True Merit award two years in a row.

This proposed change requires that it be brought before all Alumni members of the Gamma Zeta Chapter who remain in “good standing”. National HQ tells us that “good standing” means all would have made regular donations and/or paid annual alumni dues as well as those who elect to remain actively engaged with Chapter activities at some level.

As such, you are receiving this email and are asked to reply to me at jimbremhorst@yahoo.com with your rejection or endorsement of this Bylaw change within 5 working days of receipt.

With Alumni Communications VP, Dane Luhrsen, we also will post this Bylaw vote request on our Gamma Zeta Social Media channels with same reply request within 5 working days.

A non response will be considered a vote of endorsement.

Thank you for your time and attention.

17th Annual RG Swedo Golf Outing

Hello Gamma Zetas,

Matt Massucci ’96 has asked me to forward the following about the upcoming 17th Annual RG Swedo Golf Outing.  This is an awesome event to recognize and remember Gamma Zeta Greg Swedo ’96 who was tragically killed in a hit and run accident in 2000.  Money raised goes to scholarships  from Greg’s high school, Fremd to attend the University of Illinois.  The top ATO Foursome at the event each year is recognized on the Heldman Trophy which is displayed at the chapter house.

Mark your calendars now and register for this year’s event!

17th Annual RGS Golf Outing
Saturday, August 25th
Carillon Links
Plainfield, IL

Registration and donation link – https://gregswedo.nationbuilder.com/golf_outing_2018

I’ve heard rumors that a very confident foursome of GZ’s from Springfield plan to raid the event this year and take away the hardware.  Get your group together today and give them a run for their money!

Contact Matt Massucci directly at matt@hirewell.com if you have any questions.

Thanks!!

Jim “Breeze” Bremhorst ’81 to lead Gamma Zeta House Corporation

I’m very pleased to announce that Jim “Breeze” Bremhorst ’81 has agreed to be our next House Corporation President. His position has been unanimously approved by the Board of Trustees.

Jim will be taking over for Greg Scott ’76 who has served us so well over the last five years. Thanks to Greg for his dedication to this role and many hours of service to our fraternity! Greg will continue to support our chapter in his new role as President of Arete Management who we have contracted to provide on-site facilities management services.

Jim grew up in Glenwood and attended Homewood Flossmoor High School where he was on the basketball team. He graduated from Illinois in 1981 with a B.A. in Finance and a M.S. in Finance in 1983.

Jim started working with Arthur Andersen in their Management Information Consulting Division in January 1983. This division was renamed Andersen Consulting in 1989 and became Accenture in 2001. He was a partner from 1999 until he retired in 2010. Jim specialized in the Utilities Industry and spent a lot of time on large systems projects including enterprise financial systems and merger integrations.

Jim is married and lives in Springfield. He has two daughters and a son (an Illini). In retirement, he spends most of his time coaching b-ball, volunteering in the school district, taking care of his dad, exercising, visiting his kids, running his church’s finances and golfing.

Jim loved his days at 1101 and regularly stays in touch with many of his pledge brothers and others from his era. (Picture is of Jim on left with Stu Meacham ’78 and their daughters Mel and Chantel who were team mates on the Wheaton College women’s basketball team) Now, he’s excited to bring his significant leadership and project management skills to his role as the Thomas Arkle Clark Memorial House Corporation President.

Breeze will need your help as there is much to be done over the next few years so don’t be surprised if he gives you a ring.

L&R,

Jack Klues
