Ten job hunting tips for Gamma Zeta Seniors

I’ve spoken to many Gamma Zeta seniors and other soon to be college grads who are in the process of looking for their first job and find that I’m repeating some of the suggestions over and over again.  I thought that it would be useful to put them in writing so that I can just point people to a link as a follow up to a call but also to solicit tips from others.  After reading this list if you have other ideas, please make note in the comments section or send me a note at daneluhrsen@gmail.com.

Throwback Thursday – Homecoming Court 1997

Before he was a top executive with one of the top private equity funds in the city this Gamma Zeta was undergrad Social Chair, Rush Chair, WM, on Student Alumni Association and did some volunteer tutor work. He was also on the Homecoming Court and after graduation served 5 years as the House Corp President. Name this former Gamma Zeta Thomas Arkle Clark winner for being the top ATO in the country.

TAC1We’ve just been informed that our initiate #1, Thomas Arkle Clark has been selected to be inducted into the Illinois Fraternity & Sorority Alumni Hall of Fame Class of 2015! “His lifetime achievements since leaving the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign have been recognized and we are pleased to announce that he has been selected to be given this honor.” There will be an award ceremony on Saturday, May 2nd at 3pm in the afternoon at the ACES Library Heritage Room on campus. Congrats Dr. David Teuscher ’81- 83rd President of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons

Most of the Gamma Zeta ’15’s will be graduating soon and I thought that all would like to see what they plan to do next.  Many already have jobs or grad school lined up but some are still looking for a best fit.  Please take a look through the list and if you have any ideas that you think would help, reach out to the guys individually and let them know how you can help.

Gamma Zetas support Hope Center in Champaign

Gamma Zeta philanthropy goes beyond big events focused on raising large sums of money for big name charities. Often times the little organizations are the ones that need the help the most and it isn’t always on the financial side. In our case, the place that needed our help was in fact right in our own backyard, almost literally. The Hope Center Food in Champaign, IL was in desperate need of some renovation and upkeep. The interior was a worn down and the walls were in bad shape so we decided to step in. One of our very own Alumni and BOT member, Norm Bilsbury ’92, plays an active role in Hope Center and offered to have the undergraduate members of Gamma Zeta take a short time out of their weeks to help out. Over the course of three different days, the members of The Gamma Zeta Chapter put in over 60 hours of combined community service helping to paint the interior of the Hope Center in Champaign, Il. At the end of the week we were pleased to hear that our work had paid off and that the Hope Center was grateful for our help.

Michael Drai ’00 wins 2nd Annual “Tau Madness” NCAA Bracket Challenge

Congrats to Michael Drai ’00, Champion of the 2nd Annual “Tau Madness” NCAA Basketball Tournament Bracket Challenge!! He wins $947 and his name will be displayed on the trophy at the chapter house. Bill Barry ’77 ($394) was 2nd and John Norton ’77 ($236) was third. Thanks to all who entered and helped raise over $1500 for the Gamma Zeta Traditions fund!! It was a lot of fun.
