There is a destiny that makes us brothers – Robert J. Simonds, 1924-2013

Bob SimondsOur great friend, inspiration and leader, Bob Simonds entered the Chapter Eternal on December 21, 2013.

Bob remained connected, committed and active in ATO until the very end. Just this past year he led all of us in a campaign that raised over $60,000 for ALS research. He inspired the ATO Rooftop outing in 2012 and the gathering at the Illinois vs. Washington Football game this past fall at Soldier Field that brought so many of us together, some for the first time in decades. Bob also inspired the creation of the document “Legends, Leaders, Lists and Profiles – the Stories and Men That Bind Us – Gamma Zeta – Alpha Tau Omega – University of Illinois” which you can see at our Continue reading

Gamma Zeta Alumni Celebrate the Holidays Together in Chicago

Southbranch Holiday Happy Hour 2013Over 100 Gamma Zeta alumni passed through South Branch Tavern & Grille in Chicago for our 24th annual “buy a brother a beer” holiday party in Chicago on December 20. South Branch, at 100 S Wacker Dr. turned out to be an ideal location close to both train stations and we had our biggest turnout ever. This event is really growing. This year we had representatives from the class of 1975 through the class of 2012. Special thanks to Bill “BB” Barry ’77 who backed our tab!! See pictures from the party at our Facebook page at – https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.186519891553884.1073741831.139580319581175&type=1&l=621cb582b5

Alumni Volunteers needed for Mock Interview in Chicago on January 15

We’re going to hold a Mock Interview program for the ATO Gamma Zeta undergrads in Chicago at 4:00 PM in Chicago on January 15. We’re looking for alumni volunteers to conduct the interviews. You don’t need to be an HR expert. If you don’t have a set of questions, that you normally use, we’ll provide a template and guidance. This will be practice for initial “screening/trait” interviews so anyone should be able to help. However, if you or your company has something that you regularly use for something like this, that would be great too. Here’s a draft agenda. We’re still finalizing the details:

  • What:                      ATO Gamma Zeta Mock Interview Session
  • Who:                        All Gamma Zeta undergrads and pledges are eligible
  • Date:                       Wednesday, January 15th, 2014
  • Time:                       ~4:00 PM – 6:30 PM
  • Location:              Illini Center, 200 S Wacker Drive, Chicago, IL 60606 (easy walk from both train stations)
  • Agenda:
    Introduction and explanation of format
Mock Interview 1 (30 minutes) and feedback session (15 minutes)
Mock Interview 2 (30 minutes) and feedback session (15 minutes)
    Wrap up
    Pizza reception

Please send me an email at daneluhrsen@gmail.com if you’d be willing to participate and let me know if you have any questions and/or suggestions.

We believe that this will bring tremendous value to our current undergrads in preparing them for the upcoming interview process for jobs and internships AND it will be a tremendous and unique to Gamma Zeta activity that they can talk about during rush with prospective new members. We’d really appreciate your help.
